Hello!

For the past two years I’ve been thinking how fun it would be to start a blog. For the past two years, the critical thing that escaped me was what I’d write about. But time and opportunity (and a shiny new computer) presented itself, so here I am. I’m going to start out slowly and write about the things that interest me: food (cooking and eating, everything from the sublime to the junk stuff, though I often confuse the two), volunteerism, my career in copywriting, good books, good movies, good radio (old time drama and “Vic & Sade” are all-time favorites), the good and the bad stuff about getting older, my friends, my family, my two cats, my average life in my average town. I’ll try to not bore you to death. Even if we don’t know each other yet, I’d like this blog to resemble a letter to a good friend. I hope you’ll stick around for the journey.

A little about me: I am a career woman (as opposed to an amateur woman, I suppose) and work full time. If I disappear from this blog for days, it’s because I’m busy or lazy. I’ll probably say I was busy, but that might be code for “lazy.” I’ll let you figure that part out. I live in a house that’s more than 100 years old, with my sweet cats, Sam and Penelope; I’ve been divorced for many years, I eat all the wrong stuff and don’t get nearly enough exercise, and I enjoy cooking for friends, or just spending time laughing with them.

I might post photos if I can figure out how. The learning curve here is tremendous. I’m thankful for my patient and kind friend Josh, who helped me set this up and who saves his laughter for when he gets out of earshot when I ask the same question seven times. “How do I get my e-mail again?”

I am not on Facebook, MySpace or YouTube. I do not Twitter or Tweet, though I’ve been known to guffaw. I don’t own a cell phone. I am not Linkedin to anything. But I like to write about the stuff of ordinary life, and I plan to do it here.

So, welcome. Leave a note if you are so inclined. If there’s something more you’d like to know along the way, or something you’d like to chat about, let me know. Right now I’d better get busy thinking of some relevant topics. Did I mention my cats?

Thanks for stopping in. More later.
